The Pine Avenue Redevelopment Project is proud to announce that the current Columbus Square Park– Heritage Walk will be renamed Castellani Columbus Square Park-Heritage Walk on July 18, 2019 at 6:30 pm.

Chris Castellani, a longtime generous supporter and owner of Supermarket Liquors has pledged to donate $5,000 a year to maintain the Italian Heritage Park on the corner of 15th Street and Pine Avenue. (1425 Pine Avenue).  The Castellani Family was one of the original contributing families to build the park in the early 1990’s.  Since the Pine Avenue Redevelopment Project took the park over in 2017, an outstanding water bill has been paid taking the park off the foreclosure list.  Thanks to many generous donors including the Mr. Castellani, Catherine DiMino and Savino Nanula many repairs to the garage, lighting, gazebo, bricks, bocce courts, landscape have been made.  Mr. Castellani has contributed each year leading to this annual pledge of $5,000 which will be used for maintenance and upgrades to the park.

Chris Castellani is the 7th born to 8 boys and 4 girls to Armand and Eleanor Castellani.  Chris learned the value and honor of giving back to the community from his parents.  Tops traces back to Great Bear on Pine Avenue founded by Armand Castellani.  “I feel honored to be able to contribute to the continued work and success of the Pine Avenue Redevelopment Project to make Pine Avenue a Beacon of Niagara Falls”

Also being honored will the Fortuna Family who have purchased a Tribute Square in Heritage Walk and are 2019 LIFETIME PARP Members along with Robert Restaino, Esq, Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club and Fidelis Care

Entertainment for the evening will be James Jeckovich sponsored by Councilman Ken Tompkins.  Special treats donated by DiCamillo Bakery will be served. 

The Public is invited to attend this FREE event.

GEORGIA FUGITIVE ON THE RUN FOR THE MURDER OF AN AUTISTIC MAN IS CAPTURED IN NIAGARA FALLS

Niagara Falls, NY –  A few days after Niagara Falls Police Dispatch put out an attempt to locate for 27-year-old Joshua Anderson, that attempt to locate was canceled  after Anderson was arrested at a home on Whirlpool on Tuesday.

According to wsbtv, Police say Joshua Anderson mowed down Kevin Marshall, 20, after an argument on the Fourth of July

Witnesses said Anderson chased after Marshall in his truck as Marshall walked home in Newton County GA. and ran him over.

TWO PEOPLE ARRESTED IN PACKARD COURT RAID THIS MORNING

Niagara Falls, NY – Early this morning around 7am, E.R.T. officers armed with a search warrant raided an apartment in the 32 building of Packard Court.

Several grams of crack and a hand gun was seized during the raid.

A male and female were taking into custody.

Niagara Falls, NY – Niagara Falls police and responding to the 1100 block of Linwood Ave for 1 person stabbed during a fight.

The suspect fled the scene with a bloody nose.

Niagara Falls Native Qadree Ollison To Be Honored This Evening During City Council Meeting.

Niagara Falls, NY – The Niagara Falls City Council will be honoring Qadree Ollison Wednesday night, 7/10/2019 during their Council meeting at 6:00pm.

Qadree Waymond Ollison, born September 8, 1996 is the son of Vicki Harris and Wayne Ollison. Qadree has three brothers and one sister. His parents were college basketball players. His father played at Buffalo State and mother played at Alabama State. Quadree earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from University of Pittsburgh; and

Qadree is a Niagara Falls native, who set career records for Canisius High School in rushing yards (4,147) and total touchdowns (57), and as the top offensive weapon on one of the top teams in New York State, was named Niagara Gazette’s Football Player of the Year two consecutive seasons in a row; and

Qadree volunteers with the Boys & Girls Club. Throughout college, he worked with local High School and Middle School students. Growing up playing near his hometown of Niagara Falls, NY in the Cataract Little Loop Football Association, Qadree is active in working with the youth and giving back to the association he learned so much from; and

Qadree was one of the top 5 running back prospects in the state of New York and finished as the all-time career rushing leader at Canisius with 4,147 yards, a total that ranked third in Monsignor Martin Association (MMA) history. He scored 57 touchdowns in his High School career and rushed for 1,465 yards and scored 22 touchdowns during his senior year and played in the MMA championship game at Ralph Wilson Stadium; and

Qadree’s final two seasons at Canisius include back-to-back MMA championships, played under Coach Rich Robbins and was named a finalist for the Connolly Cup, presented annually by the Riverside Athletic Club to the top high school player in WNY; and

Qadree committed to the University of Pittsburgh. For his collegiate career, Qadree compiled 2,859 rushing yards to rank seventh all-time at Pitt. Qadree holds a record for the longest play from scrimmage—run or pass—in Pitt history, 97-yard run. It also was the longest run during the 2018 college football season (tied with Notre Dame’s Dexter Williams). Qadree was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2019 NFL Draft, during the 5th Round.

WOMAN HIT IN HEAD WITH BASEBALL BAT

Niagara Falls, NY – A female was taken to the hospital after she was hit in the head with a baseball bat during an altercation overnight.

The incident happened around 1 am in the 1900 block of Welch Avenue.

The victim was able to walk to the ambulance.

Security cameras captured the altercation of several women smashing up the victim’s vehicle and apartment as well

A detective was dispatched to the scene and another went to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, where the victim was being treated. The victim was uncooperative when questioned, according to police.

VAN DRIVES INTO GILL CREEK

July 11, 2019

Niagara Falls, NY – At 14:29:58 on 07/11/19 Niagara Falls Polices officers and firefighters were dispatched to 32nd Street and Niagara Street for reports of a vehicle in Gill Creek with a person inside.

While first responders were being dispatch a caller stated that the male driver of the van that went into the water had exited the vehicle and fled the scene running west on Niagara Street.

The 2009 red Chrysler Town & Country minivan registration came back to a 35-year-old male with a Cuddeback Avenue address.

Unknown if the driver was caught.
