Collaborative Oktoberfest Planned for Downtown Niagara Falls USA – Sept. 28

Sept. 17, 2019 (Niagara Falls, NY) – It’s time to raise your glasses and give “Prost” as members of the Downtown Niagara Falls Business Association (DNFBA)  host a collaborative Oktoberfest celebration, on Saturday, Sept. 28.  The German-themed activities will be held throughout several DNFBA member locations and compliment Old Falls Street’s 10th Annual Oktoberfest outdoor street festival, complete with German-themed food, beer, decorated tents and live music by the German American Musicians.  All participating venues are within walking distance of Old Falls Street.

In addition, The Sheraton Niagara Falls (300 Third St.) and The Giacomo Hotel (222 First St.) are offering special Oktoberfest pricing on overnight stays, on Sept. 28.  Guests should call the Sheraton at (716) 285-3361 or The Giacomo at (716) 299-0200 and mention “Oktoberfest” to receive the special rates.

“Throughout the years, Old Falls Street’s Oktoberfest was sponsored by the Downtown Niagara Falls Business Association,” said Susan Swiatkowski, tourism development manager at Destination Niagara USA and DNFBA secretary.  “This year, in addition to Old Falls Street’s outdoor festival, many of our association members are working to keep the celebration going within their own establishments.  We hope this new approach attracts a wider audience and entices guests to stay longer, possibly overnight, while experiencing new and well-established hotels and restaurants in our district.”

Niagara Falls, NY – On Friday September 20, 2019, Niagara Falls will host another “Color Your City” run! But don’t worry you can also jog or walk.

According to their facebook event page, the event well be held from 5pm to 8pm.

This event will start in the parking lot of the John Duke Center 1201 Hyde Park Blvd, 14301 Niagara Falls, NY

Niagara Falls woman critically injured after being hit while riding her bicycle

August 12, 2019

Niagara Falls, NY – On the above date at approximately 11:37 a.m., the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a bicycle on Hyde Park Blvd and Grand Ave.

A 2014 Hyundai, driven by a 75 year old Lewiston man was traveling east on Grand Ave
and came to a stop at the stop sign at Hyde Park Blvd. While making a left turn, the
vehicle collided with an 86 year old Niagara Falls female cyclist who was crossing Hyde
Park Blvd. and heading west.

The woman was thrown from her bicycle, sustaining injuries to her head.

A passing AMR ambulance was flagged down by the driver of the vehicle, and the woman was transported to ECMC.

She is currently in surgery and listed in critical condition.

The Crash Management team is continuing the investigation.

THE CONNECTION OF NIAGARA FALLS NY FREE YOUTH PROGRAM

August 5, 2019

Niagara Falls, NY – This morning I came across a group of teens led by supervisor Lynne Neveu volunteering their time to help clean up parts of Main Street. I am told that they do this every Monday.

They are with The Connection which is a FREE after-school and summer space for teens in the Falls ages 11 to 19 located at 1700 Main Street. All teens are welcome to stop by and enjoy access to Xbox, computers, wifi, and tons of other activities with meals or snacks served daily.

The Connection is a Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York’s sex education, teen pregnancy prevention program in Niagara Falls where youth can spend after-school hours doing homework, relaxing in a safe space or engaging in health and education-focused activities.

David F. Pryor III  Convicted On Attempted Murder and Other charges.

Niagara Falls, NY – 27-year-old David F. Pryor III has been convicted in the August 26, 2018 double shooting of two men outside of Poppy’s Place bar on Cayuga Drive.

Pryor is facing a potential life sentence when he is sentenced on October 4th for two counts of attempted murder and one count each of 1st-degree assault, 2nd-degree assault and 2nd-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

SHOTS FIRED OVERNIGHT ON WELCH AVENUE

August 1, 2019

Niagara Falls, NY – Around 8:38pm on Thursday evening, Niagara Falls Police responded to report of shots fired near 19th and Welch Ave. A female called to report that she was being shot at from a white vehicle with two female occupants.

When police arrived on scene, they discovered a single bullet casing in front of a house in the 1700 block of Welch Ave.

Moments later officers spotted the suspected vehicle involved in a driveway in the 1000 block of 19th Street near Ashland Ave with at least one of the suspects still inside.

That person was taken to police to be questioned. It’s unknown if she was the shooter or if she’s facing any charges.

It’s also unknown to us if the 2nd suspect had been located

No reports of any injuries or property damage at this time.

MAN ARREST AFTER CRASHING INTO A HOUSE

July 28, 2019

Niagara Falls, NY – A 21-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning after crashing a car he was driving into a house on the corner or 11th and Cleveland Ave and then leading police on a foot chase.

Around 6:31am Niagara Falls police officers were dispatched to the call with the dispatcher telling officers that the owner of the house that was hit was trying to prevent the driver from leaving the scene.

According to witnesses and police audio, the suspect fought with the homeowner.

When police arrived on scene, the suspect took off running east up Cleveland Avenue leaving his drivers license behind.

Officer spotted the suspect a short time later near 15th and Linwood and when they approached him, he took off running again.

Police officers eventually caught the suspect in the 1500 block of Willow and took him to custody around 6:41am.

He’s being charged with resisting arrest along with vehicle and traffic violations.

Be on the lookout for a blue Chevy Traverse with an orange IAFF sticker in the rear driverside back window call 911 immediately. It belongs to a city firefighter and was stolen from the City of Tonawanda Fire Headquarters at 44 William Street. It’s believed to still be somewhere in Erie or Niagara County area. (possible trip down thruway) license plate CMA7660 please contact 911 or City of Tonawanda PD if found!
